Afghanistan U-19 Beat West Indies U-19 by 138 runs in ICC U19 World Cup

Afghanistan Under-19s defeated West Indies Under-19s by 138 runs at the High Performance Oval. Afghanistan Under-19s got off to a strong start after winning the toss and electing to bat, with Opener Osman Sadat playing a patient 88 off 131 balls.

Captain Mahboob Khan shifted gears in the middle overs, hitting 86 from 69 balls with ten boundaries and two sixes. Together, they pushed Afghanistan to 262 for 6 in 50 overs. West Indies’ Jakeem Pollard was the only bowler to pick up multiple wickets, finishing with 3 for 39.

West Indies Stumble Early

Chasing 263, West Indies struggled from the start. Afghan pace spearhead Wahidullah Zadran struck early, removing two top-order batsmen inside the powerplay. Khatir Stanikzai then spun the game away, taking 3 for 20.

The West Indies batsmen found it difficult to build partnerships. Only Jewel Andrew resisted, scoring a gritty 57. The Afghan fielders cut off singles and grabbed every catching opportunity. Nooristani Omarzai claimed the final wicket, wrapping up the innings at 124 in 34 overs.

Mahboob Khan’s aggressive approach in the latter overs set the tone for Afghanistan. Wahidullah Zadran and Khatir Stanikzai ensured there was never any real chance of a West Indies comeback. Osman Sadat’s steady innings complemented the explosive batting.

This emphatic victory also boosts Afghanistan’s net run rate as they sit atop Group A. Next, Afghanistan will face Tanzania, looking to maintain momentum and continue their dominant run.
