Chameera Urges Sri Lanka’s Bowling Unit to Step Up in Hasaranga’s Absence

Chameera Urges Sri Lanka’s Bowling Unit to Step Up in Hasaranga’s Absence

The injury of Wanindu Hasaranga has given Sri Lanka a huge blow in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The star pacer, Dushmantha Chameera, now wants the entire bowling unit to fill the gap of Hasaranga by delivering a strong performance in the tournament. He said losing Hasaranga is very unfortunate for Sri Lanka, however, the team still has the capability to go a long way in the tournament.

"Yes, not having Wanindu is a big loss for the team. Because we all know his talent. I think the entire bowling unit gets the responsibility. So I think we all have a big responsibility to fill that gap." said Dushmantha Chameera.

The management has decided to add Dushan Hemantha as Hasaranga’s replacement in the squad. Chameera believes Hemantha is also a good option because he can provide valuable contributions in both departments of the game.

"When compared to Wanindu, I think he has a different way of bowling. He can bat as well, so he can play as an allrounder." said Dushmantha Chameera.

Talking about the depth of fast bowling, Chameera said that Sri Lanka have a quality pace attack that can perform at various stages of the game. He added that the availability of Matheesha Pathirana in the Powerplay is a big plus for the team, as he has the ability to pick up early wickets.

"I think we have a good combination in the fast bowling. Especially Matheesha, who has not [bowled] in Powerplay before. Now there is a big advantage for the team as he bowls in the Powerplay. And also Pramod, he has a lot of experience, he bowls really well with the new ball and at the death." said Dushmantha Chameera
