The Pakistan–India T20 World Cup decision has moved to the Prime Minister’s Office. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi plans to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to seek a final decision on Pakistan’s participation against India at the 2026 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
The ICC asked Naqvi to return with a clear government position. The match is scheduled for February 15, but political tensions still affect the plan.
PCB officials say the board will not act on its own. The prime minister will make the final decision.
ICC, PCB, and BCB had a long meeting that lasted for hours. It was paused for dinner, and later resumed at another location.
Naqvi is also dealing with a separate dispute involving Bangladesh, which has further slowed progress. Solving that issue is seen as key to easing wider problems.
The PCB chief has already met BCB president Aminul Islam and ICC deputy chairman Imran Khwaja. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has requested PCB to play the match again India.
Earlier this month, the government cleared Pakistan to compete in the tournament but refused permission to play against India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later defended the decision in a cabinet meeting. He said it as a careful and calculated move.
“There should be no politics in sports,” he said, while backing the restriction.
For now, the ball sits firmly with the country’s leadership. Until that meeting happens, the spotlight will stay fixed on the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the decision that could define the tournament’s biggest night.
