New Zealand scored 175 against South Africa in the first innings, as Marco Jansen starred with the ball to put the brakes on the Kiwis batting. He took three crucial wickets in the Powerplay, as well as one in the middle overs when the New Zealand batters were threatening to take the game away from South Africa.
Batting first, New Zealand got off to a great start, as both openers scored quick runs in the Powerplay. However, the introduction of Marco Jansen in the fourth over reversed the momentum, as he removed Tim Seifert, Rachin Ravindra and Finn Allen in quick succession to give South Africa an edge over New Zealand.
Mark Chapman then launched the counterattack during the middle overs, however, he also got out after scoring brilliant 48 runs. The late order cameo by James Neesham then allowed New Zealand to post a decent total of 175 on the board at the end of the first innings.
South Africa will now look to chase this target in the second innings by getting a strong start. It would be interesting to see how they will attack the New Zealand bowlers, as they also have a quality pace lineup.
